Professor/Associate Professor (Focus on Collaborative Data Science)

The Department of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) in New York City invites applications for the position of senior faculty member (Professor or Associate Professor) with expertise in large-scale multi-modal data science and artificial intelligence, particularly as it relates to data sharing. The faculty member will lead large-scale collaborative data sharing efforts as well as research in their independent area of scientific expertise.

WCM as an institution, including its CTSA, is focused on the effective use of data science and artificial intelligence to advance our research and innovation, clinical, and educational missions. This commitment is exemplified by the recent creation of a senior associate dean office focused on data science and AI.

The Department of Population Health Sciences has significant data resources. A particularly important resource is the INSIGHT Clinical Research Network, a unique collaboration of more than 20 New York City-area medical institutions with clinical data on more than 24 million people. The department also has electronic health record data from the PCORnet-RECOVER collaboration among clinical research networks, including INSIGHT, that represents 41 institutions across the nation. In addition, we have robust insurance claims data resources, including Inovalon national, multi-payer claims data with ~226 million unique individuals across Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial plans. We established the WCM Data Coordinating Center and have access to the state-of-the-art computing environments at WCM and Cornell University, such as the Scientific Computing Unit (SCU). We are an active member of the New York State Empire AI consortium.

The successful applicant will be an accomplished academic researcher with exemplary leadership and funding experience. The faculty member will join a highly collaborative, rapidly growing department, and sit in the Division of Health Informatics and Artificial Intelligence. Our faculties interact extensively across Weill Cornell Medicine, with colleagues at Cornell Tech and Cornell University (particularly Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, and the Duffield College of Engineering), as well as with New York Presbyterian Hospital (ranked 7th in the country by U.S. News & World Report) and its multi-hospital system. The position has the potential for WCM institutional leadership roles.

The ideal candidate will have (1) a doctoral degree or an MD with equivalent training in health informatics, data science or a closely related field, (2) excellent communication skills, (3) a strong track record of initiating and leading collaborative research programs as well as success in extramural funding, (4) expertise in analyses of large clinical data sets including electronic health record and claims data and (5) enthusiasm for mentoring junior faculty. Leadership skills are critical.

Interested applicants should submit, via email: (1) a cover letter describing their qualifications for and interest in the position; (2) a recent C.V.; and (3) the names and contact information of three references to Ancheska Castillo at phs_admin@med.cornell.edu as soon as possible. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
