The Division of Biostatistics is currently accepting applications for the Biostatistics Summer Internship Program.
This paid internship is targeted towards undergraduate students who are interested in data analysis and passionate about improving health care access and outcomes. Over the course of the internship (6/8/26-7/24/26), participants will complete a project analyzing data to answer a real-world health research question, attend weekly lectures on hot topics in health care data analysis and professional development, and receive mentorship support from a biostatistician.
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate student or recent graduate with an interest in health care and data analysis
- R coding experience (not required)
Program Eligibility
Our program is open to U.S. citizens/permanent residents or international students studying at a U.S. university.
Internship Components
1. Real-world health research project: Students work in small groups to complete an applied health research project, beginning with conceptualizing the statistical analysis plan, cleaning the data, conducting the analysis, reporting the conclusions, and ultimately creating and presenting a poster presentation.
2. Educational lectures: Several lecture series are held to enhance student knowledge and exposure to the field of biostatistics and related careers:
- R crash course (first week of the program to catch students up to speed on R basics)
- Fundamentals and hot topics in biostatistics (weekly lectures on important methods in public health data analysis)
- Research spotlight series (weekly lectures on exciting research projects WCM biostatisticians are working on to showcase the breadth of topics one can work on in public health)
- Career development series (weekly lectures on different careers for biostatisticians and related health data analysis professionals)
3. Individualized professional development support: Weekly 1-on-1 meetings to discuss students’ career goals, next steps in professional development, and soft skills such as networking and resume building.
4. Community building events and activities: Located in NYC, our program provides students with access to unique community building events and activities.
