The Division of Health Informatics and Artificial Intelligence with the Department of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) in New York City is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The Division of Health Informatics and Artificial Intelligence is a multi-disciplinary research division with expertise in artificial intelligence/machine learning, mobile and digital health, patient-reported outcomes, clinical imaging, and natural language processing. Faculty in this division have multiple opportunities for collaboration with clinical researchers at WCM, as well as partner institutions New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Cornell Tech, which is Cornell’s NYC-based engineering campus.
The Division is interested in adding faculty with a focus on agentic AI, with research expertise in areas including but not limited to:
- AI agents and multi-agent systems for healthcare and medicine, including but reasoning, planning, tool use, workflow orchestration, and multimodal agentic AI.
- Evaluation, safety, trustworthiness, and human–AI collaboration for healthcare AI agents, including robustness, reproducibility, governance, and human oversight.
- Clinical and translational applications of agentic AI, including clinical decision support, biomedical research, healthcare operations, and integration with real-world clinical systems.
The Department of Population Health Sciences is highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary, with substantial research strengths across a variety of areas, including health policy and economics; health data science and data analytics; health informatics and AI; comparative effectiveness and outcomes research; healthcare delivery science; epidemiology; and biostatistics. Our faculty interact frequently with colleagues across Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and its multi-hospital system, the Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Cornell Tech, which is Cornell’s NYC-based engineering campus. The department has robust data resources and education programs:
The Department has significant data resources including but not limited to: 1) the EHR from the INSIGHT Clinical Research Network, a unique collaboration of more than 20 New York City-area medical institutions and organizations funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI); 2) PCORnet-RECOVER EHR, a collaboration among clinical research networks, including INSIGHT, that represents 41 institutions across the nation and is funded as part of the NIH Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) initiative; and 3) Inovalon, which is a national, multi-payer claims database that includes ~226 million unique individuals across Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial plans, with data sourced directly from more than 160 payers. The Department also runs the WCM Data Coordination Center. In addition, we have access to the state-of-the-art computing environments at WCM and Cornell University, such as the Scientific Computing Unit (SCU), where data is served to users via a Mellanox HDR Infiniband network infrastructure with uplinks at 200GBs. Its analytical systems include 128 graphics processing units (GPUs) using a variety of NVIDIA P100, V100 and A100 and A40 cards along with 3424 total traditional CPUs. We are an active member of the New York State Empire AI consortium, where our faculty have access to the 144 H100 GPUs in its current “Alpha” machine. The computing power will be tripled in its “Beta” version that will be released later this year.
The Department of Population Health Sciences offers MS degrees in health informatics and artificial intelligence, health policy and economics, biostatistics and data science, as well as an executive MBA/MS program offered jointly with the Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management. The Department also offers a PhD program in population health sciences.
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent in health informatics, biomedical informatics, computer science, information science or a related field. The applicant will have a record of significant research accomplishments, including developing and sustaining extramural funding, and will demonstrate a strong ability to mentor students, post-doctoral researchers, and junior faculty members. The successful candidate will also have experience in curriculum development, teaching, and scholarship activities in health informatics and AI. The candidate should have strong communication skills, an established record of interdisciplinary work, and be ready to foster collaborative opportunities in research, education, service, and innovation, including engaging with industry partners and entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will also have an opportunity to become a member of the WCM Institute of AI for digital health (AIDH) and work closely with other members in the institute.
Salary established below per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience:
Assistant Professor: $165,000-$199,000

The salary range listed is for full‐time employment not including bonuses, clinical incentive compensation, or benefits. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, specialty, training, and hospital/community needs.
The above salary range for New York City based roles represents WCM’s good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.
