AI to Advance Medicine - Dean's Lecture Series

Tuesday, September 1, 2026 - 12:00pm
Event Description:

"Responsible AI in Healthcare: From RWE to Agentic Systems"

This talk will focus on the arc from using longitudinal clinical data to generate real-world evidence, through predictive and generative AI, to agentic systems capable of acting across electronic health records, payer portals, and other operational infrastructure. Drawing on experience building Green Button, FURM, MedHELM, ChatEHR, and HealthAdminBench, Dr. Shah will review approaches to evaluation, governance, prospective deployment, and post-deployment monitoring. The goal is to create trustworthy systems that preserve human agency, recognize their limits, and deliver measurable improvements in patient care and healthcare operations.

Presenter:
Nigam H. Shah, MBBS, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Data Science; Chief Data Scientist, Stanford Healthcare; Associate Dean, Stanford University School of Medicine; Associate Director, Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research
