Dr. Himel Mallick, assistant professor of population health sciences in the Division of Biostatistics at Weill Cornell Medicine, has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 UAB National Alumni Society’s Young Alumni Rising Star Award.
Each year, the UAB Young Alumni Rising Star Awards recognize graduates who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their professional fields and communities, and their contributions to future generations.

Dr. Himel Mallick
Dr. Mallick, who received his PhD in biostatistics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, employs a wide range of computational techniques to investigate uncertainty quantification in complex biomedical studies across diverse disease areas. His research focuses on reverse translational efforts aiming to integrate vastly various kinds of biological data by leveraging machine learning, systems biology, and omics data science techniques to enable target identification and biomarker discovery across a range of indications. Dr. Mallick, who is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, also collaborates closely with NewYork-Presbyterian and industry partners in the tri-state area.
“It is with great gratitude that I will travel to my graduate alma mater for this honor in September 2024,” said Dr. Mallick. “I am grateful to my nominators for this award. Many esteemed and successful individuals have graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. To be recognized among them is truly an honor.”
