Dr. Nadine Jawad grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, where she witnessed healthcare inequity in her community that significantly shaped her professional interests. Early in her career, she led a virtual COVID-19 education campaign in collaboration with YouTube and the Stanford Center for Health Education, reaching an audience of over 6.5 million people. She also worked to broaden access to healthcare for refugees in the Middle East.
Committed to exploring clinic-based and community-partnered work and contributing to research that centers on equity and innovation, Dr. Jawad joined the Residency in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine in 2025. She is also pursuing an MS in Health Informatics at WCM as part of her residency.
Dr. Jawad completed her transitional year residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital. She holds an MD as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar at Stanford University and an MPhil in public policy as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. “Most recently, I’ve focused on systems-level solutions—combining clinical insight, implementation science, and technology to improve how we deliver care,” she explained. Previously, as an inaugural team member of Health AI Trainers at OpenAI and a contributing author to OpenAI's Health Bench, Dr. Jawad evaluated large language models across critical medical domains, including triage, diagnosis, and counseling. This work helped assess how generative AI can be used responsibly to support clinical decision-making and improve health system efficiency.
Dr. Jawad has continued her efforts to improve efficiency in healthcare as an intern at WhiteWater Software. This boutique software firm took on a customized electronic medical record (EMR) project, allowing Dr. Jawad to understand how an EMR project takes shape from both a clinical and software perspective. “It's a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience with specialized healthcare software development,” said Dr. Jawad. She contributes clinical insights to the workflow of the project and appreciates seeing these ideas demoed in real time.
“My interests lie in reimagining how we design and deliver preventive and primary care,” said Dr. Jawad. “How can we build virtual platforms that serve patients who may not have broadband, tech literacy, or insurance? How can we use AI and informatics to support providers and patients?”
