Professor/Associate Professor (Focus on Large Data Collaborations)

The Department of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City invites applications for the position of senior faculty member (Professor or Associate Professor) who will have principal responsibility for multi-institutional large data collaborations. The faculty member will play a leadership role in the design and execution of translational, clinical, and health services research using large data sets including (1) the INSIGHT Clinical Research Network, a unique collaboration of more than 20 New York City-area medical institutions and organizations funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and (2) PCORnet-RECOVER EHR, a collaboration among clinical research networks, including INSIGHT, that represents 41 institutions across the nation and is funded as part of the NIH Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) initiative.

The Department of Population Health Sciences has significant data resources including INSIGHT, which contains data on over 22 million patients covering clinical, claims and social determinants of health, as well as extensive data from Medicare, Medicaid, and major commercial insurers. We host a state-of-the-art computing environment, the Data Core, which serves as a secure platform for data analysis and includes state and national data available for reuse.

The successful applicant will be an accomplished academic researcher with exemplary leadership experience, and will join a highly collaborative, rapidly growing department. Our faculty interact frequently across Weill Cornell Medicine, with colleagues at Cornell Tech and Cornell University (including Cornell’s newly launched School of Public Policy), and with New York Presbyterian Hospital (ranked 7th in the country by U.S. News & World Report) and its multi-hospital system. The position has the potential for Cornell institutional leadership roles.

The ideal candidate will have (1) a doctoral degree or an MD with equivalent training in health informatics or a closely related field, (2) excellent communication skills, (3) a strong track record of independent and interdisciplinary collaborative research as well as success in extramural funding and program development, (4) expertise in analyses of large data sets including electronic health record data and (5) enthusiasm for mentoring junior faculty.
